George has worked in environmental conservation since 1986. His research areas include satellite monitoring studies on pelagic species, including sea turtles, billfish, sharks, and tuna. He’s the co-founder of The Great Turtle Race, which uses satellite tracking data to raise global awareness and generate funding for the management and conservation of endangered leatherback turtles. Dr. Shillinger has a Ph.D. in Marine Biology from Stanford University, an MBA from the Yale University School of Management, an MS in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Stanford University, and a BA in the Biological Basis of Behavior from the University of Pennsylvania.

The Eastern Pacific Leatherback Turtle Conservation Network started in 2012 when over thirty researchers, NGOs, and regional experts came together to develop an action plan to stabilize and restore the leatherback turtle population in the Eastern Pacific Ocean.
