Nelly is a Biologist with a Master’s in Aquatic Ecosystems, with experience in sea turtles conservation projects in countries of the region, and has more than 20 years of experience in Peru working on research and endangered species conservation such as sea turtles and cetaceans. She is currently directing bycatch research and mitigation projects in collaboration with artisanal longline and gillnet fishermen on the Peruvian coast. She also collaborates in environmental education projects for the fishing communities. She is a researcher of the NGO ACOREMA, a member of the group of specialists of the National Plan for the Conservation of Sea Turtles in Peru, a specialist of the CPPS technical committee, and a member of the IUCN Marine Turtle Specialist Group.

The Eastern Pacific Leatherback Turtle Conservation Network started in 2012 when over thirty researchers, NGOs, and regional experts came together to develop an action plan to stabilize and restore the leatherback turtle population in the Eastern Pacific Ocean.
