Based in Huatulco, Oaxaca, Luis manages our conservation initiatives for climate change, sea turtles, coral reefs, and mangroves in the world-unique and biodiversity-rich southern Mexican state of Oaxaca. He joined COSTASALVAJE in 2018 and helped protect the sea turtle IN Morro Ayuta nesting beach, where over one million olive ridley sea turtles nest each year. He also conducted environmental education programs for students in indigenous communities along the southern coast of Oaxaca.
Currently, he coordinates the leatherback turtle conservation project at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service-funded Chacahua Beach Sanctuary where he strengthens the protection of 48 kilometers of beaches through monitoring, education, and training in five Afro-Mexican communities.
