Heydi has worked with sea turtles and with communities near nesting beaches since 2007. She has worked for FFI since 2008, contributing to efforts in the conservation of critically endangered species that nest on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua , among them, D. coriacea, E. imbricata, and C. mydas agassizii, as well as the monitoring of Lepidochelys olivacea on arribada (mass nesting) beaches. Beyond the nesting beaches, he has also worked with fishermen through the monitoring of the incidental fishing of sea turtles in the main fishing ports that present greater interaction with sea turtles during fishing and evaluations in possible areas for the foraging of turtles linked to fishing spots. Currently, she also contributes to the monitoring and conservation of key species in terrestrial areas based on citizen science.
