Javier has a degree in Agribusiness, he graduated from the National Agrarian University (UNA) of Managua, Nicaragua. Since 2008, he has been part of the Leatherback Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) Conservation Project on Salamina beach, guaranteeing the monitoring and protection of nests and the proper functioning of the hatchery. He is a vital link between the community and the conservation project. He is very motivated when it comes to raising awareness and teaching in communities and schools. Since 2014, he has collaborated in Environmental Education on issues such as solid waste management and awareness campaigns on sea turtles in the municipality of Villa El Carmen, Managua. Since 2009, Javier has been a member of the National Sea Turtle Network in Nicaragua.

The Eastern Pacific Leatherback Turtle Conservation Network started in 2012 when over thirty researchers, NGOs, and regional experts came together to develop an action plan to stabilize and restore the leatherback turtle population in the Eastern Pacific Ocean.
