Carmen works in the north of Peru on sea conservation and research. The NGO ecOceanica started in 2015 doing various activities such as sea turtle censuses, records of strandings, sea turtle necropsies, environmental education for children and adults, collecting biological data on sharks and rays, among others. She is currently leading the project on the biological aspects of the Hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), which is a critically endangered species.

The Eastern Pacific Leatherback Turtle Conservation Network started in 2012 when over thirty researchers, NGOs, and regional experts came together to develop an action plan to stabilize and restore the leatherback turtle population in the Eastern Pacific Ocean.
